How can I plan for sales throughout the month?
Sales Orders can be created to represent the contract between you and your customer at any time, even if the material has not yet been received into inventory. For planning future sales—especially contracted material or material you expect to receive and process later—the best practice is to use sales orders, not shipping worksheets. Sales orders are meant to represent your customer contracts and expected shipments. They allow you to do the following.
- Enter future or contracted sales without requiring inventory to be on hand.
- Plan sales for material you expect to receive or convert later (e.g., OCC Loose → OCC Baled).
- View open quantities and contract values across all contracts through Order Management.
- Get a clear picture of what you’re committed to shipping for the month.
Once the material is actually received and (if needed) converted, you can then create Shipping Worksheets against those Sales Orders and fulfill them as normal.
Summary:
- Sales orders are for planning and commitments.
- Shipping worksheets are for selling out available inventory and invoicing.
Using sales orders for monthly planning gives you flexibility and visibility, without running into inventory roadblocks. For more information on how to create orders, visit our help file here.
