Creating a New User in QuickBooks Online

Users in cieTrade.net that will be integrating with QuickBooks Online MUST have their own QuickBooks user credentials.

To create a new user in QuickBooks:

In QuickBooks Online, click the Settings icon at the top right of the page and then select Manage Users.

On the Manage Users page, click New to create a new user.

Set the user type to  Company Administrator. Then click Next to continue.

NOTE:  QuickBooks users MUST be a Company Administrator or the Master user in order to establish a link with cieTrade.net. 

If a QuickBooks Online user does not have the proper permissions, the following error message will appear when they attempt to integrate cieTrade.net and QuickBooks Online:


To continue, enter the user’s email address and name. Then click Next> to proceed.

Click Finish to send the new user an email with a link for them to create their user credentials and sign into your QuickBooks Online company.

In cieTrade.net, navigate to Settings > Integration. Click the Disconnect button and then click Connect to re-establish the link to QuickBooks Online.

You will be directed to the QuickBooks Intuit page where you will  Sign In using your new credentials.

If you are taken straight to the Authorize page, click the (Not you?) button at the top right of the page to log out the current user and log back in with your new credentials.

You will then be directed to the Authorize page to establish the link between your QuickBooks company and cieTrade.net. Confirm that cieTrade.net is connecting to the correct QuickBooks company and click Authorize.

PLEASE NOTE: users that are reestablishing a link to QB using new/different credentials MUST click 'Connect anyway' in order to establish the new connection with the updated credentials.

After authorizing the link, you will be redirected to the Integration page in cieTrade.net. Ensure that AR Module is checked and then click Save to confirm your connection.

Once the integration link has been established, the link icon in the top right corner of cieTrade.net will turn green to show that your accounting link is enabled.
